We’re excited to host two wonderful events this year for our semi-annual collaboration with the Lopez Union Cemetery Association, Our Ancestors’ Stories:
Lecture: San Juans and the Civil War, 2:00PM, Lopez Center Church, 311 Davis Bay Rd
Join former National Park Service historian and author Mike Vouri for an engaging talk about the San Juan Islands during the Civil War.
Mike will set the historical stage for our semi-annual cemetery walk, Our Ancestors’ Stories: Civil War Veterans, Sunday, September 6.

LIHS Board Vice President Joe Schwankl will lead a tour through the cemetery focusing on the 25 Civil War veterans who lived on Lopez Island.
Learn about what roles they played in the War (including potential fraudsters and deserters!)and what brought them to Lopez.
